Strings, tension, and arm comfort
Practical setup guidance. This is equipment advice, not medical diagnosis.
String & tension basics
- Multifilament: softer, easier depth, usually best for comfort and newer players.
- Soft co-poly hybrid: more control and spin than multi, less harsh than full poly.
- Full polyester: useful for advanced spin/control players, but can be harsh at high tension.
- Lower tension generally adds comfort and depth; higher tension generally adds directional control.
Comfort setup checklist
- For arm sensitivity, start with multifilament or gut/poly hybrid around 21-24 kg / 46-52 lbs.
- Avoid stiff full poly at high tension when elbow, wrist, or shoulder pain is active.
- A softer racket can still feel harsh with the wrong string setup.
- Change one variable at a time: racket first or string first, not both blindly.
Injury prevention & arm comfort guide
Recurring or severe pain should be assessed by a qualified professional. The guide includes cautious exercise and equipment notes for elbow, wrist, shoulder, and forearm issues.
When to stop and ask for help
- Sharp pain, radiating pain, numbness, swelling, or pain that worsens each session are stop signals.
- Equipment can reduce load, but it cannot treat the underlying cause of recurring injury.
- If you are under care, follow your clinician's return-to-play guidance over any app suggestion.
